What Are Learnerships?

Learnerships are formal, work-based learning programmes that integrate both theoretical and practical training:

• Theory: 30% of the programme involves structured classroom learning aligned with unit standards to achieve a professional or vocational qualification.
• Practical Training: 70% of the programme focuses on hands-on workplace training to build practical skills.

These programmes aim to produce skilled, knowledgeable individuals capable of meeting the demands of the labor market. Learnerships are guided by the Sectoral Education and Training Authorities (SETAs) and fall under the jurisdiction of the Minister of Higher Education and Training.

Learnership Allowance

Participants in the Learnership Programme will receive a monthly allowance as determined by the Learnership Determination. This allowance is governed by prevailing learnership conditions during the programme.
